A friend of mine was going to buy her daughter a wedding gift and decided on a Prepac 7-drawer chest. Looking for something simple and functional at an affordable price was key. After looking at many of the local furniture stores she decided to buy it online from a reputable online retailer.

Shipping to her door was $142.50 and the retailer provided free shipping which reduced the cost significantly. There were three finishes available…Oak, white and black. The reason for picking this particular lingerie chest was the narrow width, she wanted the chest to take up the least amount of space possible. The exact dimension are 50.5″ H x 20″ W x 15″ D with the approximate shipping weight being 68lbs.

When the Prepac lingerie chest arrived it was in a typical flat box that you might expect to see “need to assemble furniture” to be in. She debated on presenting the lingerie chest assembled or in the box…I always like to present chests/furniture assembled as you don’t want the recipient to have to deal with missing parts, broken pieces etc…

Taking all the pieces out of the box and accounting for everything…all was there, which is a good start. The main structure of the lingerie chest is made from 5/8″ thick laminated composite board and the drawers are made from high density fiber board. One thing that I did not like is that the railings were actually all nylon, not metal. I would have thought the rollers would have been nylon, but the whole drawer assembly was nylon…weird to say the least.

Another drawback on the Prepac 7 drawer lingerie chest is the assembly. I have put a several pieces of furniture together in my life and this lingerie chest has to be the most difficult piece of furniture that I have helped put together. We found it difficult as the holes seemed to be drilled incorrectly…some holes did not line up, but after 2 hours of pounding and drilling…we got it together. The overall structure of the chest seems a little suspect, but considering what will be in it…it should be OK. For the price I was actually expecting a little more stability and the quality to be a little more. Lingerie chests are not cheap, but with some more time I think we could have found a better quality lingerie chest.
